Oil Painting Colorful
I need a little help with blending oil paints on the canva?
I am about to start a picture (only my 4th) of a bird sitting in a tree. The bird is the most colourful part of the picture. If I, accurately, follow the picture that I have chosen, the background will be fairly sombre with quite dark grey for most of the top half of the picture, blending to a lighter grey then to a pale blue for about the bottom quarter.
I know that some oil painters cover the canvas with a light coating of linseed oil to help with this sort of blending. I have only tried this once and my painting seemed to never dry. How do I put on the very tiniest amount of oil for this process or is there a different way to blend colours gradually than starting with a ‘wet’ canvas?
Also, how long would you expect a painting to take to dry completely when using this method?
